OxFirst 15th IP and Competition Forum

ForumIn personPatents
The 15th Intellectual Property and Competition Forum, organized by OxFirst Club, is scheduled for 13–14 January 2027 at the University of Oxford. This forum aims to address the evolving challenges in cross-border patent strategy, emphasizing the need for responsible, predictable, and commercially viable patent enforcement on a global scale. It brings together senior judges, in-house counsel, economists, policymakers, and leading practitioners to collaboratively develop practical reference points for the next phase of global patent strategy. Key themes for the 2027 forum include the impact of 6G technology on patent value and quality, the influence of video coding technology on platforms and markets, the economics of patent litigation and rate-setting, and the role of alternative dispute resolution methods like arbitration and mediation in managing standard-essential patent (SEP) and licensing disputes. The forum also plans to discuss the European Patent Court's (UPC) litigation costs, case allocation, and its effect on access to justice in Europe. The Oxford Forum is designed as an interactive working environment, moving beyond traditional conference formats. It integrates judicial perspectives, corporate strategies, legal practices, economics, and policy discussions, allowing participants to test ideas across various jurisdictions and professional communities. This collaborative approach aims to develop coherent strategies for cross-border patent enforcement, moving beyond isolated national debates. Professionals involved in patent law, intellectual property strategy, and competition policy should consider attending to gain insights into the latest developments in global patent enforcement and to engage with a diverse group of experts shaping the future of patent strategy.
